Uniting Christians

Dear Uniting Christians:

“How good and pleasant it is when God’s people live together in unity!”  Psalm 133:1

The psalmist is writing of a beautiful dream, when all the people of God would live in unity and the blessings of God would flow like oil down upon all with fragrance and goodness. What a dream to have, to be in peace and unity, with no arguments, no divisions, no grievances, no anger, no resentments. All would be at peace and care for each other, respecting each other and hoping the best for the other person no matter who they are or where they come from.

Our world seems to need this  dream of a vision for unity. So often people are allowing themselves to get worked up into a frenzied state fed by mob mentality and stirred up by half informed knowledge. If we just think of ourselves as always on the righteous side, every last person can be offended by someone else or something.

But instead of looking at what divides, why don’t we start looking at what can bring us together as a human race. There is the world hunger crises, distasters, diseases and plaques that are killing millions every day. There is the lack of educational, social and/or economic opportunities destroying millions of lives every week. Isn’t about time all of God’s people come together in unity to tackle these imposing needs instead of dividing and ripping ourselves apart. What a wonderful dream it would be for all people to come together in unity. God, let it start with us.
